You are responsible for your device. Keep it safe in your possession and locked when not in use.
Securing your device
Never leave an device unattended. Add a passcode to your device to secure personal information and files. Do not share your passcode with others.
Do not remove or modify identifying labels, decorate or individualize district-issued cases.
Taking device home
Secure your device in a backpack when on the go. At home, there should be a designated “home” for the device for overnight charging. Keep the device away from younger siblings and pets to avoid damage.
Cameras and microphones

Use of the device to record images, video or audio in the classroom should be limited to learning activities.
Use of recordings
All electronic recordings created with the device must comply with district policies and state and federal laws.
Due to privacy requirements, any recorded content should not be shared beyond the classroom unless approved with permission by participants and the teacher.
Lost, stolen, damaged devices

All non-intentional damage will be repaired with no cost (limit of two replacement iPad screens per user).
Lost or stolen
The replacement fine for lost or stolen devices is:
$99 for iPads
$199 for laptops
In the case of intentional or egregious damage or neglect by any user, actual repair or replacement costs will determined and levied.
Device care and maintenance
You’re responsible for keeping your device clean and ready to use.
Charging your device
You are expected to charge your device nightly at home and make sure it’s ready for use in school each day.
Always use an approved case with your iPad. You may not decorate and individualize district-issued cases with stickers or other items.
Cleaning and care
Your iPad screen is glass and is scratch-resistant but not scratch-proof.
Avoid exposing your device to moisture or liquids and clean with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
Apps, downloads and email

Apps and syncing
District-issued devices must not be synced to any other computer or iTunes account. The App Store and iTunes are disabled on all student district-owned devices and all apps and content will be downloaded/synced at school. All apps will be purchased by the district for academic use and are the property of Vancouver Public Schools.
Students are discouraged from using web-based games on their iPads, unless identified by a teacher for reinforcement of learning.
Students will be provided a district-managed email account to communicate with teachers, submit work and move documents between apps. This email account is a secure district system that allows monitoring and access of all communication.
